Data sources and licensing

This route exists so that the data-provenance surface is reachable rather than returning a 404. The published register below is a placeholder: no licence, attribution or data-rights position stated here has been verified.

Why this page is not yet a source register

A usable register must list, for every dataset the product consumes: the provider, the dataset and version, the retrieval date, the spatial and temporal coverage, the resolution, the licence and its attribution requirement, and whether commercial use is permitted. That work has not been completed or approved, so no dataset is listed as licensed for commercial use here.

Outstanding before approval

  • Complete the dataset inventory against the live fetch paths
  • Obtain and record written licence terms for each provider
  • Record required attribution strings and where they are rendered
  • Confirm which providers permit commercial redistribution in reports

Fail-closed behaviour

Where a source cannot be retrieved, the product now shows “Not assessed — source unavailable” rather than a zero, a low-risk classification, a compliant result or an estimate wearing an authoritative source label. Dependent scores and monetary values are suppressed and commercial export is blocked.

Illustrative and fixture-backed content

Some public content — including the address demonstration and the example scenarios — is generated from fixed assumptions rather than from data for the place shown. Those surfaces are labelled as illustrative or synthetic and carry no third-party source attribution.

Jurisdictional coverage

The product does not yet route data and policy separately for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Until nation-specific adapters exist and are approved, no claim of UK-wide coverage is made on this page.

Outstanding before approval

  • Build and approve four-nation source adapters
  • Publish a per-authority coverage manifest

Expert-assisted screening tool — under commercial-readiness review

Urban Nature Audit is an expert-assisted screening tool. Its outputs are screening-level and non-statutory, they are intended to be operated and interpreted by a competent professional, and the product is currently under commercial-readiness review. It does not replace:

  • an ecological survey
  • the official statutory biodiversity metric
  • planning advice
  • flood or drainage engineering
  • legal advice
  • a professional valuation
